Other meter reading methods are periodically evaluated, but to date, none have been proven to save money, increase efficiency and accuracy, and provide the value-added service that real people do.

The simple truth is Cedarburg Light & Water's part-time meter readers are conscientious, they don't waste time, and because of the demographics of our community, they are able to efficiently walk most of the routes.

They provide several value-added services too. If your current month's usage is not in line with your prior usage, the meter readers, Dennis and Terri, will spend a few minutes studying your electric and water history. They'll check the meter reading on the spot and if it's correct, they'll let you know when your usage is unexplainably high. This can save you money and frustration, because you'll be able to find and correct any problems you may have with a faulty appliance or a water leak, before it continues. Dennis and Terri also report any suspicious activities or utility equipment problems they may run across.

There's no doubt that someday we'll automate our meter reading, but for today, we'll stick with a system that saves you money and provides accurate monthly billings with value-added services.
